World Decent Work Day Observation by BSLSB & BSPAN of OSHE Foundation

 

On World Decent Work Day, the OSHE Foundation organized two human chains in front of the National Press Club and OSHE Head office at Mirpur, Dhaka, to advocate for workers’ rights, fair wages, safe working environments, equal opportunities, and the ratification of ILO Convention 102.

 

Speakers at the event emphasized the crucial role of workers in driving Bangladesh’s economy. They called on the government to ensure occupational health and safety protections in the workplace and to include workers in the social security net. Chairperson of OSHE Foundation Saki Rezwana, highlighted the need to ratify ILO Convention 102 to guarantee workers’ protection, safety, and social security.

The human chain also addressed the lack of social security for workers in Bangladesh. Participants pointed out the financial risks faced by workers due to the absence of compensation and retirement benefits for sickness, old age, occupational accidents, injuries, and death. They urged the government to take necessary action to ensure every workers participation to universal pension scheme to enhance financial security and stability for workers.

The human chain was attended by workers from the garment sector, trade union members, federations, BSPN project members, and representatives from various youth, civil society, and development organizations. BSPAN project coordinator Mahmuda Sultana Snigdha led the event.
