Leather Development Forum (LDF) Platform Meeting
“Ensuring Responsible Business Practice and Workers’ Rights: Challenges and Way-forward” by Leather Development Forum (LDF) under the European Union funded project ‘Building a Sustainable Leather Industry Sector in Bangladesh’, a joint initiative between Bangladesh Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Foundation (OSHE) and Solidar Suisse. It aims to create recommendations anticipating to reform of leather sector crisis in the perspective of Social and Environmental Compliance and the protection of workers’ rights for the sustainable growth of the leather sector in Bangladesh.
Objectives
- To create recommendations towards ensuring social and environmental compliance at leather sector in Bangladesh and submit it to “Labour Reform Commission”;
- To strengthen policy advocacy and social dialogue towards better workers’ rights and implication of Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 in the Leather sector in Bangladesh;
- To advocate the governments to formulate a specific labour law to bring the provisions of the country’s existing labour laws in line with the reality and make it inclusive for realizing rights of workers of all sectors in Bangladesh;
- To explore the issues of constituting ‘Labour Reform Commission’ to amend the existing labour laws for ensuring workers’ rights;
37 nos of participants attended in this meeting from the member organization of LDF which includes tannery owners, workers, TU leaders, government representatives from relevant ministry and departments, academicians and civil society organizations (CSOs).
